Cara Stapp & William Samuel Glass

26 Dec

Merry Christmas everyone and a big thanks to Anthony Buckalew for providing these photo and document scans and the following information about his ancestors:

Attached are scans of studio photographs that have been handed down in our family, ultimately, to me. One is of Cara Stapp Glass, daughter of William Preston Stapp and granddaughter of Elijah Stapp.

The other is of William Samuel Glass, her husband, and my great-great-grandfather. The studio that made the photographs was in Gatesville, Texas, which is ultimately where they settled after they married in 1879.

Unfortunately, I do not know when the photographs were made – there is no date noted on either.
I have also attached a scan of the county clerk’s entry, noting their marriage:
The State of Texas
County of Victoria
This is to certify that I joined in marriage as husband and wife Wm S. Glass and Cara B Stapp on the 13th day of May AD 1879
Jos Ferra (?)
Rector of St Marys
Filed May 16th 1879
J C J (?) Moody clerk
Respectfully submitted,
Anthony Buckalew,
7th Generation Texan

Thanks so much for sharing these pictures.
W.S.Jr. and Cara were my GGgrandparents through Samuel Preston Glass, Francis Samuel Glass and Donald K. Glass. This is the first time I have seen these pictures and it means alot to me.
I would like very much to have a copy of these pictures.
    All the best-
    Donald Lynn Glass

Wow! My daughter is doing a report on her ancestry and I am loving this. William would have been my great, great grandfather. I believe his son was my great grandfather, my mother’s grandfather, her mother’s father. So interesting.

William Samuel Glass was my great grandfather through Samuel Preston Glass. In my baby book Mother spelled my great grandmother’s name Cora Aleen (Stapp) Glass. My mother was Freda Elizabeth (Glass)Curry. I was born and raised in Gatesville, Texas.

Thanks for sharing. William Samuel and Cara Strap Glass are my great-grandparents through William Robert Glass and Robert Francis Glass. Also if interested William Samuel’s father William Scruggs Glass has a portrait hanging in the Old Victoria Courthouse right next to the judges chair. Regards, William Mark Glass.

Cara Benton Stapp Glass and William Samuel Glass were my grandmother’s (Celeste Glass Hornung’s) grandparents (her father was William Robert Glass), making them my great-great grandparents. I have enjoyed learning the family history, and very much appreciate the pictures, which I will share with the rest. My grandfather, Celeste Glass’s husband, J.R. Hornung, became an elected judge in Wichita, Kansas carrying on the family judicial tradition. Would be interested to see the picture of William Scruggs Glass in Victoria!
